The documentary ‘Midden in de Marine’ (in the middle of the Navy) has won the ‘Gouden Reiger Award’!

“The documentary awarded by the 2010 ‘Gouden Reiger Award’, gives the viewer surprising insights into the often very different motivations of the various protagonists: from the officer on the bridge to the sailor in the laundry. The episodes of the online documentary ‘Midden in de Marine’ not only show a surprising picture of the life and work at a naval ship. It is simultaneously an exciting travelogue, because we experience the successful mission against piracy from the beginning to the end. Various themes are addressed in a logical manner: the goodbye of family members, the hazards of a combat situation and the practical and social aspects of life in such a small community at sea.
The episodes have a nice length of 7 minutes and are embedded in a comprehensive website with many relevant background.
Credibility and authenticity were the most important aspects for this assignment. But the jury wants to give a special mention to the quality of camera work and editing.
The jury was impressed by the image that this versatile, expertly made documentary offers and the excellent way in which the public is informed. Mission accomplished.”
